This week’s recap is a bit late and will have to be brief. I spent yesterday on the road, heading back home to Austin after wrapping up a 10-day swing through the Southwest. I spent a few days up in Colorado and caught up with Denver Donuts owner Derek, where we met at Coors Field and took in a Rockies game. The home team dropped a 10–7 slugfest to the Giants, but the crowd was impressive. For a Wednesday night, with the Rockies sitting on just 15 total wins and the All-Star break looming, the place was still packed. Of course, the Giants fans showed up too. Most of the crowd along the third base line was wearing orange and black and sounded just as loud as the locals in purple.

After that, I circled back south for another visit with the owners of the Roadrunners and Chihuahuas—who also happen to be my parents.

We’re officially past the halfway point of the PCI’s inaugural regular season. With a 25-week schedule and the final three weeks reserved for playoffs, we’re now fully into the back half of the race. On to the scores.

In a matchup where the team names alone made the outcome feel preordained, the Fat Boys devoured the Donuts, 7–3. I’ve been saying for weeks that I was looking forward to writing about this matchup—so many possible dumb jokes, so little time. If I weren’t rushing this recap, this paragraph would include lines like “Sprinkles absolutely covered the field in the aftermath” and “It was less a baseball matchup, more a late-night fridge raid.” There almost certainly would have been a Babe Ruth reference. I might’ve said something about the Fat Boys needing to keep an eye on their blood sugar after a binge like that—or maybe issued a friendly warning about the dangers of type 2 diabetes. There might’ve been a carb-loading joke. Maybe even something along the lines of “Nine Fat Boys walk into a Dunkin’…”

But alas.

The Armadillos rolled past the Integrals 9–0, launching 12 home runs and posting a .293 team average. On the mound, they held the edge in WHIP, K/BB, and total wins—capping off a dominant week that now has them sitting in second place in the East.

The Cavemen continued their midseason surge with an 8–2 rout of the Oilers, crushing 11 homers and logging 34 RBI while putting up four wins and a 3.65 ERA. Meanwhile, the Chihuahuas knocked off the first-place Roadrunners 5–3, powered by a 9-HR, 37-RBI week and a sparkling 1.78 ERA—one of the best pitching lines across the league.

The Mutts edged out Oahu 6–4, despite the Rocketeers putting up a better ERA (2.35) and WHIP (0.93). The league’s aquatic mascots squared off this week, as the RedFish and Mullets splashed their way to a 5–5 draw, with Rockport’s bats doing the damage and Sinton getting it done on the mound.

That’s it for now—standings are tightening up, and Week 12 is already underway. Good luck to everyone in the second half.
