PCI Week 6 Recap: Roadrunners Surge, Mutts Maul, and Cavemen Climb
Monday, May 12, 2025
The Pedro Cerrano Invitational is heating up, and Week 6 didn’t disappoint. From blowouts to near-misses, the standings saw a significant shuffle—and a couple powerhouses reminded us why they sit up the top.
New Mexico extended its grip on the West with a convincing 8–2 win over Oahu. The Roadrunners hit .281 as a team, stole nine bags, and got strong pitching across the board—posting a 2.31 ERA and 0.91 WHIP. Third baseman Rafael Devers led the charge, going 9-for-18 with 2 homers and 8 RBIs. Oahu put up a fight with 7 homers—2 from George Springer, who also added 5 RBIs—and a solid K/BB ratio, but couldn’t keep up in volume or efficiency.

Boerne pulled off the upset of the week, chewing up the Fat Boys 9–1. The Mutts launched 14 bombs, swiped six bags, and posted a clean 3.62 ERA to go along with 6 saves. Kyle Schwarber hit .400 with 3 HRs and 6 RBIs to lead the offensive barrage. Gallagher Gulch matched Boerne with 6 saves and won the errors column, but got out-hit and out-pitched elsewhere—and tumbled in the standings because of it.

Michiana, led by Francisco Lindor’s monster week (3 HR, 7 RBI), steamrolled Austin 10–1 in a matchup that turned lopsided fast. The Cavemen mashed 14 homers, stole 14 bases, and kept their ERA under 3.00 while holding the Armadillos to just 4 long balls and a 5.40 ERA. Lance McCullers Jr. posted an eye-popping ERA of 189.00 after failing to make it out of the first inning. The loss drops Austin to 8th overall, while Michiana surges into the top three.

Indy quietly continued their rise, edging Rockport 6–3 behind a .301 team average and 41 RBIs. Freddie Freeman had a monster week, hitting .500 with 3 HRs and 12 RBIs. The Integrals also posted a 3.56 ERA and stayed just ahead in most offensive categories, holding off a solid week from the Redfish.

Doña Ana picked up a gritty 6–4 win over Denver, powered by 10 home runs—three of them from Juan Soto, who also drove in five. Despite hitting just .205 as a team, the Chihuahuas edged the Donuts on the mound, sweeping every pitching category except saves (which ended in a tie) and holding Denver to a bloated 5.22 ERA.

Finally, Coastal Bend took care of business against Sinton, winning 7–4. The Oilers outperformed the Mullets in key spots: 8 HRs, 37 RBI, 4 saves, and a tidy 2.68 ERA with a 5.30 K/BB ratio. Oilers starter Chris Sale tossed 12 innings with a 1.46 ERA, 1.38 WHIP, and a 4.50 K/BB. Sinton, for their part, got excellent work from their starters—Skubal, Pfaadt, and Canning combined for 24.1 innings and a sparkling 1.12 ERA. But the rest of the roster couldn’t hold the line, and the Mullets remain underwater—yes, I know, a painfully obvious and lazy metaphor for a team named after a fish. I’ll try harder next week. My brain’s still sore from the prolonged clubbing I took from the Cavemen.

Looking ahead to Week 7
Boerne faces an Austin squad looking to stop the skid. Michiana heads to Denver in what could be a tightly contested matchup. New Mexico looks to keep rolling against Rockport, while Indy takes on Gallagher Gulch in a game both teams need. Coastal Bend squares off with Doña Ana in a sibling rivalry and a solid East vs. West pairing, and Sinton gets a chance to regroup against Oahu in the Battle for the Basement.
