Week 9, Issue 10, November 7th, 2023

Lobos Trounce Troubs
The New Mexico Lobos, last season’s champions, are once again showcasing their prowess, seizing control out West with a commanding win over the Tortilla Flats Troubadours. In a matchup that had Troubadours owner Rich Wills promising to bring “shock and awe,” the Lobos showed their mettle. CeeDee Lamb, with an impressive 191 yards and 28 points, and QB Jalen Hurts, who threw 2 TDs for 25 fantasy points, played pivotal roles in the Lobos’ triumph.
The Troubadours mounted a strong response. TE Dalton Schultz delivered an outstanding performance, securing 10 receptions on 11 targets for 27 points. Moreover, their Browns defense made an impactful contribution with 7 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 2 fumble recoveries. However, the shock fell somewhat short of shocking, and the awe, while inspiring, wasn’t quite enough to overcome the Lobos’ dominance. The Lobos secured the victory with a final score of 138 to 117.
Robots Crush Leatherheads Amidst Turmoil
Eager to rebound from their previous week’s loss to New Mexico, the i2^3∑π unleashed their pent-up frustration upon the Rockport Leatherheads. The pivotal scoring performance came from WR Diontae Johnson, who secured seven of nine targets for 90 yards and a touchdown, amassing an impressive 22 fantasy points. Kicker Younghoe Koo was flawless, making all four of his field-goal attempts and both extra-point tries, further contributing 19 points to the scoreboard.
Amidst this mechanical onslaught, the Leatherheads struggled to find their offensive rhythm. RB Austin Ekeler, with two touchdowns (14 carries, 47 yards), shone as a bright spot in an otherwise forgettable match. The i2^3∑π Robots emerged victorious with a dominant score of 124 to 86.
Off the field, a storm seems to be brewing within the Rockport organization. Leatherheads owner Ronnie Stanton shared with reporters that his team’s struggles could be attributed to internal discord. Following a team meeting, several players allegedly delivered a blunt message to team leadership, expressing their sentiments in a less-than-diplomatic manner. It’s reported that they told the team management to “f*ck off,” opting to go back to taking shots of whiskey before games. This behind-the-scenes turmoil raises questions about the cohesion and leadership within the struggling Rockport squad.
Underdog Jaybirds Soar to Shocking Victory
In an unexpected turn of events, the underdog Jaybirds defied the odds in their Week 9 matchup against the high-flying Muskellunge, who held the first-place position in the league. The Jaybirds, determined to make their mark, were led by the relentless efforts of RB Josh Jacobs, who carried the ball 26 times, accumulating 98 yards and an impressive two touchdowns, amassing a total of 21 points. Additionally, Tee Higgins displayed his prowess, securing eight of nine targets for 110 yards and contributing an additional 19 points.
The Jaybirds established an early lead and tenaciously maintained it throughout the game. Despite the Muskellunge’s efforts to mount a comeback, they struggled to find their footing. In the end, it was a remarkable upset victory for the Jaybirds, who triumphed with a final score of 112 to 79.
Following the surprising loss, Muskies owner Kyle Dean assumed a defiant stance, sending a clear message to the entire league. He stated, “The Muskellunge took a hard loss this weekend. Team meeting tomorrow, and we are winning out.” With this declaration, the Michiana owner seems determined to rally his team and regain their momentum, setting the stage for a compelling comeback story.
Tourists Secure Redemption with a Dominant Win Over Tacos
In a highly anticipated rematch, the Austin Tourists sought redemption and found it as they outperformed the San Antonio Tacos with a decisive final score of 146 to 100. The Tourists showcased their determination and game-changing performances, led by RB Rachaad White, who contributed an impressive 27 points to their victory. QB Josh Allen also played a pivotal role, amassing 24 points with his remarkable display.
The Tacos fought valiantly but couldn’t quite match the Tourists’ formidable performance. Their standout RB, Derrick Henry, delivered a strong showing with 19 points, and star QB Patrick Mahomes added 15 points of his own. However, their combined efforts ultimately fell short as the Tourists secured the win, propelling them into the top spot in the East division.
After the game, Tacos owner Nick Allison expressed his sentiments about the Tacos’ performance, stating that they lacked their usual spice. In response, San Antonio owner Grady Fowles quoted Jeffrey Lebowski, humorously acknowledging the subjective nature of opinions by saying, “That’s just like your opinion, man.” The exchange exemplified the competitive spirit and camaraderie within the league, highlighting the ongoing drama and banter that adds flavor to the HLC, even if the flavor was somewhat lacking from a certain team this week…
Player of the Week Honors
For Week 9, once again, Lobos WR CeeDee Lamb clinches the Player of the Week title. His standout performance included 11 receptions for 191 yards, averaging an impressive 17 yards per catch and accumulating a league-leading 28 fantasy points.
Standings
In the East division, the Tourists, buoyed by their victory over the Tacos, have surged into first place for the first time this season. San Antonio is now a close second, with Michiana dropping to third, and the Jaybirds occupying the fourth position.
In the West, the defending champion New Mexico Lobos have reclaimed the top spot following their triumph over the Troubadours. The Robots are in second place, Rockport is third, and Tortilla Flats brings up the rear.
