Week 3, Issue 4, September 26th, 2023

As the dust settles after an action-packed Week 3 in the HLC, only two teams remain undefeated. This week lived up to all the hype, delivering thrilling matchups that kept fans on the edge of their seats, some nail[1-biters that went down to the wire, and a couple of commanding blowout victories.

Tacos Come from Behind

In what initially appeared to be a bleak situation for the San Antonio Tacos on Sunday afternoon, the odds were against them as they trailed late in the game with only a 32% chance of emerging victorious. However, thanks to the remarkable performances of two key players, Keenan Allen (45 fantasy points) and Kenneth Walker III (30 fantasy points), alongside Patrick Mahomes (25 fantasy points), the Tacos staged a remarkable comeback. Their resilient effort allowed them to seize the lead and ultimately clinch a narrow 154-142 triumph over the previously undefeated Michiana Muskellunge.

Michiana certainly had its own standout performances, with wide receiver Tyreek Hill (30 fantasy points) and quarterback Lamar Jackson (28 fantasy points) delivering stellar efforts. However, their contributions fell short in the face of the Tacos’ fiery resurgence. With this hard-fought victory, the Tacos now boast a flawless 3-0 record as they head into a Week 4 showdown on their home turf against the Tortilla Flats Troubadours.

Ataque de Lobo!

After a couple of sluggish starts this season, Week 3 witnessed the former champions, the New Mexico Lobos, roaring back to life as they obliterated the Rockport Leatherheads in an emphatic fashion. Running back Raheem Mostert led the charge with an extraordinary performance, racking up 3 rushing touchdowns and 1 receiving touchdown for a total of 45 fantasy points. Wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase added 26 points of his own, while quarterback Jalen Hurts contributed 20 points, with 1 rushing and 1 passing touchdown.

On the opposing side, Rockport’s quarterback, Brock Purdy, had a commendable day, amassing a total of 310 yards and a couple of touchdowns without any interceptions. Running back Joe Mixon put up a strong showing as well, rushing for 180 yards and securing a rushing touchdown. But despite their notable efforts, the former champions ultimately proved to have an overwhelming advantage in firepower, resulting in a resounding victory over the Leatherheads with a final score of 150 to 91.

Tourists Arrive in Indiana

The Austin Tourists are basking in the glow of their first victory of the season. Quarterback Josh Allen had a solid performance, contributing 2 touchdowns and amassing 218 passing yards. Tight end Travis Kelce was a fantasy standout, racking up an impressive 20 points, while wide receiver A.J. Brown added 22 to the tally. However, the true stars of the game were the Tourists’ defense, scoring a touchdown, forcing a fumble, and intercepting 4 passes to tally 31 fantasy points.

The Jaybirds, on the other hand, didn’t go down without a fight. Wide receiver Davante Adams had an exceptional game, posting a whopping 42 fantasy points with 13 receptions, 172 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Additionally, wide receiver Courtland Sutton contributed 20 points of his own. Despite their impressive efforts, it wasn’t enough to prevent the Tourists from securing their first win of the season by a score of 162 – 124.

Robots Silence Troubadours

i2^3∑π entered the battleground with a clear mission: maintain their dominance and keep steamrolling their opponents. Once again, they executed their plan with overwhelming success. While the Troubadours showcased some impressive performances, notably Christian McCaffrey scoring 23 points and wide receiver Marquis Brown adding 17 points, their ongoing struggles at the quarterback position were evident. Trevor Lawrence managed to find the endzone only once and posted an underwhelming 14 fantasy points.

In stark contrast, i2^3∑π continued their unstoppable march through the season. In the first three games, no opponent has come within 30 points of challenging the ‘bots. Quarterback Justin Herbert displayed his prowess, completing 27-of-41 passes for 305 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions. Meanwhile, wide receiver Justin Jefferson recorded seven receptions on 13 targets for 149 yards and a touchdown, while Deebo Samuel tacked on an impressive 25 points of his own, solidifying the Robots’ dominance on the field as the they cruised to a 160 – 92 victory.

Week 4: Fish and Robots: Back Home Again in Indiana

The two formidable teams hailing from Elkhart, Indiana, have established themselves as high-scoring juggernauts this season. With their explosive offensive prowess, their upcoming clash promises to be a showdown that will undoubtedly light up the scoreboard. The Muskie will be fired up, looking to hand i2^3∑π their first loss of the season.

The Lobos and Tourists are both eager to capitalize on the momentum gained from their first victories of the season as the Lobos hit the road to face the Tourists in Austin.

The Leatherheads are set to visit the Jaybirds, with both teams aiming to bounce back from their week 3 losses and find stability in their starting quarterback positions.

In San Antonio, the undefeated Tacos will aim to maintain their perfect record as they host the struggling Troubadours, who are in search of their first win in the 2023 season.

Standings

With impressive victories in Week 3, both the San Antonio Tacos and the i2^3∑π (AKA Robots) have catapulted themselves into sole possession of first place in their respective divisions. Notably, this marks the first instance in the current season where the coveted number one spots aren’t shared by multiple teams. Their stellar performances have solidified their positions as frontrunners in the HLC, and it’ll be interesting to see if they can maintain their dominance as the season unfolds.
